“Space Destroyer Hunter”? Now what…?

I’ve been pretty bad about updating, but there are some “valid” explanations. I won’t bore you with any of them, because there’s something to get excited about.

Back in 2008, I hired a mystery artist to work on Starship Moonhawk. At about the same time, I also hired another (then entirely unknown) artist, a college student trying to make her way into the comics industry. Her name is Grace Allison. And if you look back a couple pages, you’ll see the title card and credits you missed, as well as a cast roster for those unfamiliar with my 2003 novel: “The Admiral’s Daughter”. (It will be re-released in about 2013 or 2014. Depends on when I can get the revisions done.) So popular was that book as a download at StoneGarden.Net Publishing, where I have my print novels, I decided we needed to visit this crew again in graphic novel form. So that’s what this is. As it is part of the Starship Moonhawk continuum, but follows entirely different characters, I have decided to run this here, and then offer it up for print when it finally is completed. Since the original run was on a different domain and was practically ignored, I put it up in the “Extras” gallery, where it also languished. With that in mind, I have decided to run it again, daily, until EVERYONE is caught up with the first 23 pages, then I will run the remaining pages as RAPIDLY AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE until it is done. Shouldn’t be TOO bad. It’s only 54 pages total.

Anyway, that’s what’s up. Sorry to leave the main series as a cliffhanger, but things must be done in order to move forward. Those of you already familiar with the original run, feel free to come back and relive things with us, or wait until May 1, when the first new page arrives on your screens. The choice is yours.

Thanks for reading and staying with us!

Space Destroyer Hunter: “Maveen”. A 54-page diversion, hopefully soon to become a graphic novel!

DEAD?! Not Goddamn Likely!

Naturally, folks are concerned. This is to be expected. I’ve never been terribly diligent about updating this thing on my own, but honestly, I’ve made greater progress “fixing” the storyline in the past year than I did in the past eight years since we debuted the comic format in 2002. So, here’s what’s going on. Basically, I am working on a gig that MIGHT pay me a little bit. But, I have to complete a “test” of sorts in order to actually get the job. It’s annoying to potentially do work on spec, but the contractual dealie on that is that I get the same royalties as the official artists for the books if we go to print. that’s not such a bad deal.

So, what does that mean for Starship Moonhawk and Co.? It means a little more waiting to continue with Act III, I’m afraid. My plan is to bang out this one-shot deal and then cool my heels for a week or so and work on Starship Moonhawk and Peppermint Saga again, while I wait and see if they give me more scripts to work on. If they do, it’s one more stepping stone to personal financial freedom because then I’ll have an actual “paid gig” under my belt. the faster I stop working my day job LEGITIMATELY, the faster I can start working for YOU, my devoted readers. Of course… anyone feeling generous can help speed things along a little with a buck or two in the ‘ol tip jar. Just saying. 😉 As for the proposed “return” here, we’re looking at or around May 1 for new stuff in this joint.

In the meantime, keep in mind that there *IS* related material updating here. Up in the “EXTRAS” section, there is random updates of “Surrender”, the horrific origin story of Ael Delenaria, as written by Kim Godwin, edited by yours truly, and illustrated by EviktedRei (http://evikted.deviantart.com). I tried coloring it initially, and it was killing me. Rei’s work is phenomenal. You really should check it out while it lasts… because there is a very strong possibility that this is the first and LAST comic she’ll ever make. And I really think it is something worth seeing. Even in pure b/w linework.

Mega Man 2 is NOT Hard, People!!!

Seriously. WTF.

Mega Man 2 is the EASIEST Mega Man game EVER MADE. Yet the fools over at IGN make it a point in their review of Mega Man 9 to not only infer, but outright SAY that “Mega Man 9 is as hard as Mega Man 2.” So, are you saying that the game is RETARDEDLY EASY and you can kill SIX of the robot masters with a single shot from a particular robot master? to suggest that Mega Man 2 was in any way, shape or form difficult is a gross insult to the franchise. Mega Man was harder, and Mega Man 3 was probably the HARDEST game in the franchise, what with fighting EIGHT robot masters (with dubious weaknesses), then you get to fight all EIGHT robot masters from Mega Man 2, with NO weaknesses (because you do not also acquire their powers again, so no advantage from the NEW robot masters), plus you had GRUELING stages filled with cheap-one-shots, pit traps galore, massive swarms of enemies moving at such high velocity they make the screen blink incessantly, fighting Proto Man at each mid-stage and pretty much instant death around every corner. but you want me to believe Mega Man 2 was harder? Gimmie a motherfucking break. I mean, some folks go as far as to say that the Quickman stage is the most difficult in the Mega Man franchise. What? Dodging death beams? I picked up the 20th Anniversary collection about 3 years ago for GameCube. Even with the WRONG controller and not having played Mega Man 2 for almost TWENTY YEARS, I could STILL ace the death beams in the Quickman stage in under 4 mins. Without Flashman. Quickman is my first robot master when I dust off MM2, pussies. Seriously.

So, I guess I am to infer that all of the new Mega Man games are as pussified as Mega Man 2, if we are holding that up as the standard for “hard”. Clearly, nobody ever fucked around with the Gemini Man stage. Mega Man’s 4-6? Never completed them, though. they weren’t HARD. they were just TEDIOUS. Because the “final” stages were basically divided into 16 stages with no password save function. You put in the password you get after getting to Dr. Wily in Mega Man 4, and the cocksucker sends you back to the beginning of Dr. COSSACK’S castle. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! Pfft. Mega Man 2 is the hardest Mega Man game. Whew. Let me know when you kids are ready for me to wipe your noses and tuck you in to sleep with a sweet lullaby, because you are NOT real gamers if you think Mega Man 2 was hard.
