Interestingly, we chose to launch “Cosmic Feline” with this story about her friend and confidant, Ael Delenaria. Ael’s backstory is absolutely horrifying. And as ludicrous as some of her injuries are, all kinds of horrific stuff happens in war. They key here is that we want to discuss things like PTSD, and how society at large marginalizes our fallen and wounded vets. And it’s not about flags and poles and anthems, but in how we flush our fallen and harmed heroes away after they outlive their usefulness to the State. Ael’s story is grotesque, but it is also one of hope as she tries to overcome. That won’t happen in the duration of this episode. But the idea is to show her on the path. And also, why she is the way she is. Later in the series, she’s a little more whole. But I also feel this tale is critically important, because it ties directly in to the events in “The Last Sentinel”, an upcoming story where Rachael Harrison will have to deal with her own PTSD, ironically brought on by an encounter with Commander Sorthac…
